Slip away for some calm, restoration and a little slice of Iceland

in the heart of Cullercoats...

Escape into a hidden leafy den complete with twinkling fairy lights, cosy vibes and Icelandic charm.

Listen to your favourite music, read a book or simply savour the silence in our cosy wooden cabin.

Disconnect from the outside world and allow the infrared panels to melt away your worries, aches and pains.

Sip water, sweat out toxins, boost your immunity, soothe your nervous system, improve your sleep,

skin health and overall wellbeing.

Emerge refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to face the world.

Our sauna has its own private entrance and changing area and can fit up to 3 people at any one time.

Each session is private so whether you’re craving some nourishing alone time or looking for a wholesome way to catch up with a friend (or two), treat yourself to some proper slökun...

relaxing inside the infrared sauna

What is slökun?

In Icelandic, the word 'slökun' means to switch off, relax and take a moment of pause to rest and reset. It's a practice that allows you to quiet your mind, relax your body and allow whole system to take a moment of calm, restorative contemplation.

In the land of fire and ice, finding ways

to heat the body is something of an Icelandic specialty.

We wanted to bring a little piece of our Icelandic heritage

to the coast, and infrared sauna felt like the perfect

way to slökun whilst reaping all the benefits that infrared

therapy brings.

What's the difference between traditional

and infrared saunas?

Unlike traditional wood saunas which heat the air around

you, infrared saunas directly heat your body with infrared

lamps.

Not only does this allow for gentler yet deeper penetration of heat, using a more body friendly temperature than a traditional sauna, there's no waiting time for the sauna to heat up, you can control the temperature and enjoy all the benefits that infrared light brings.

There are so many benefits to regular infrared sauna use. Here's just a few of them:

  • Detoxification

  • Better sleep

  • Reduced inflammation

  • Improved circulation

  • Boosted immunity

  • Glowing skin health (from collagen production to reducing hyperpigmentation and improving acne - all thanks to the deeper tissue penetration of infrared light)

  • Pain management

  • Arthritis and fibromyalgia support

  • Increased mental wellbeing

  • Soothing your nervous system

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should I bring?

  • Your swimming costume

  • Two towels - one to sit on and one to dry off with

  • Flip flops or sliders for inside the sauna

  • A bottle of water

Is there a shower or toilet on site?

Currently, there is no toilet or shower on site. We ask that you use the bathroom before coming and recommend waiting at least 15 minutes after your sauna before showering.

How long can I stay in the sauna?

Each session lasts 60 minutes in order to allow time for getting changed. We recommend between 30-50 minutes but if you're new to sauna, we advise you start with around 15-20 minutes.

How hot does it get?

That's up to you. Unlike traditional wood saunas, you can adjust the temperature to your preference. So you can start of gently and gradually build up to whatever heat feels best for your body.

Who can use the sauna?

You must be over 18 to Slökun.

If you are pregnant, have any underlying medical conditions, cardiovascular and blood pressure issues or are taking any medication that may be affected by heat, please speak to your doctor before coming along for infrared sauna therapy.

Equally, if you are feeling unwell on the day of your session, please listen to your body and give the sauna a miss until you're feeling better.

Is there a gate code entry system?

Yes there is. You will receive an entry code by text once your booking is confirmed and paid for.

What will happen on my first session?

For your first session, we'll meet you beforehand to show you how everything works and answer any questions you might have.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your first session time.

After that, you can simply book in whenever you like.

I've been before but I can't remember what to do...

There are instructions in the changing area but here's a quick reminder:

  • Turn on the sauna via the control panel inside the sauna. You can also adjust the temperature, time and connect to the bluetooth here too.

  • The sauna takes a few minutes to heat up but you can get in straightaway as the benefits of the infrared wavelengths begin as soon as the panels are on and before the high temperatures are reached.

  • The sauna will automatically switch off for a few minutes once your desired temperature has been reached. Don't panic if you're half way through your session! The sauna will automatically start heating up again after a few minutes.

  • There are also battery operated fairy lights in the changing area if you fancy a bit of twinkle (switch by top left corner of the door).

What is Sweat Club?
